Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai is an Indian family sitcom which first aired on 2nd March 2015. The word “Bhabi Ji” literally stands for brother’s wife in Hindi. The show is produced by Edit II Productions and the plot revolves around two neighbouring couples; the Mishra’s and the Tiwari’s who live in the fictional “Modern Colony” in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Manmohan Tiwari, played by Rohitash Gaud portrays a successful businessman in the undergarments industry, whose wife Angoori is a simple housewife. Angoori Tiwari is played by Shilpa Shinde (March 2015 – March 2016) and Shubhangi Atre Poorey (2016-present) on screen. The Mishras live in house number 6 of the colony. On the flip side, the Mishra family lives in the opposite house number 9 in the same colony. Vibhuti Narayan Mishra, played by Aasif Sheikh depicts an unsuccessful insurance agent who is now broke. Saumya Tandon plays the role of his successful and smart wife named Anita Vibhuti Narayan Mishra, runs a grooming class. Anita despises her husband for being lazy and unemployed and often refers to him as “nalla”, a Hindi slang for being unemployed. The plot constantly revolves around both the families and the futile attempt of the husbands to impress each other’s wives. In their effort to impress the women, they pull each other down, which creates a mess for everyone else. With tons of scenes revolving around “Gupta Tea Stall” is a prominent set on the programme, characters of the show would gather around to discuss various matters in their lives. The sheer originality and humour of the show have garnered huge love and affection from both viewers and critics alike.
