“Ek Mahanayak Dr B. R. Ambedkar” is an Indian television series based on the biopic of the “Father of the Indian Constitution”, Dr B. R. Ambedkar. The term “Mahanayak” is a Hindi word which translates to the great actor or great chief. Portrayed by Aayudh Bhanushali and Prasad Jawada as five-year-old B. R. Ambedkar and elder Dr B. R. Ambedkar respectively, Dr Ambedkar was credibly appointed to the post of chairman in the Constitution drafting committee in August 1947. The drama showcases a journey of a young boy from a poor Indian family who were chiefly preyed upon due to socio-economic discrimination which was very much prevalent during that period in the Indian history. A time when the Indian Hindu society was crudely divided into castes this Indian drama biopic encompasses basic human rights and equality for all humanity. A very cruel side of society is ventured in this series showcasing the tyranny of the upper caste on the less fortunate. The journey of young Dr Ambedkar is effectively portrayed in his determination to eradicate social discrimination and untouchability.
The drama aired its first episode on “&TV” in November of 2019. Other notable characters including Dr Ambedkar’s father, Ramji Maloji Sakpal is played by veteran actor Jaggu Nivangune. Bhimabai Sakpal, Dr Ambedkar’s sister is played by Neha Joshi and Vanishka Yadav. Saud Mansuri and Athar Khan can be found in the role of Dr Ambedkar’s brother, whereas Falguni Dave reprised the role of Dr Ambedkar’s Bua (aunt).
